We are excited to let you know that we have a wide range of virtual presentations coming up over the next few weeks. These are a great way for senior students to learn about Ara, our study options and what it’s like to be an Ara student. We have scheduled the presentations outside of school hours, so students can choose which time suits them best and their parents could be able to listen as well.

Via Zoom students can participate in a general presentation, or subject-specific presentations on:

  • Art & Design
  • Architecture & Engineering
  • Enterprise & Digital Innovation
  • Health Practice
  • Health Sciences & Social Work
  • Languages
  • NASDA & Music Arts
  • New Zealand Broadcasting School
  • Sustainability & Outdoor Education
  • Tourism, Hospitality & Service Industries
  • Trades
  • Youth Guarantee

All sessions include the opportunity to ask our presenters questions.

NZBS Launches The Garage 96.1 – 2019 Ara Student Radio Station

Students who are interested in a career in radio are encouraged to do three things.  Take a look at their webpage, tune their dials to 96.1 and to “like” The Garage Facebook page as they run competitions and promotions: https://www.facebook.com/thegarage96.1/?epa=SEARCH_BOX

The radio station changes format every year with each incoming Year 2 cohort.  Towards the end of their year one they start researching the demographic and content they want to pitch for.  In March an industry panel comes and three teams pitch their ideas and our industry stakeholders decide on which innovative idea appeals to them.  Once the format is decided it is then full steam ahead for all the students to sell advertising, create content, set up the shows and the production needs, start digital promotions and contemplate outdoor promotions to come in the 9 weeks of broadcast.  It is all totally student run and they transform into human beings with really amazing skills.
