Toi Whakaari, Summer Workshops 2020

Looking for something to do over the summer holidays? Toi Whakaari will be delivering a range of creative workshops between the 21st & 26th January 2020. What better way to bring in the new year than to secure yourself a spot in one of the below options:

Flat Pattern Drafting: Bodice
Learn the basics of flat pattern design and manipulation.  Develop design ideas in half-scale.  Draft your own bodice block from your measurements, and create your own working pattern to make a bodice.

Lighting Design to Music
This two day workshop is designed for beginners and whose who are interested in studying lighting design at Toi Whakaari. Day one of the workshop will cover the technical basics of lighting for live production/performance and on day two you will explore how to use these techniques to develop a piece of artistic lighting design.

Screen Acting Intensive
Spend two days exploring core fundamentals of screen acting. This will be an invigorating and physical couple of days exploring how an embodied approach is vital to camera work, investigating principles such as Connection, Flow, Presence, and Emotional Availability.

Introduction to 3D Printing 
Come and discover the core skills of 3D modelling and printing at our intensive workshop. 3D printing is an amazing technology that can be used to make precise and detailed objects that would be near impossible to create by any other means. Over the course of the workshop you’ll learn core 3D Computer Aided Design skills and how to set up and run the printing machines. Next, you’ll print your own personal designs, which you can keep. Finally, we’ll explore the process of preparing your prints for painting and mould-making.

Introduction to Stage Management
An introductory session into the role of the Stage Manager with a special focus on:

  • The role and responsibilities of the SM in the rehearsal room. Setting up, running and recording the rehearsal room.
  • The role and responsibility of the SM in performance. Preparing and running a performance.
  • Health & Safety of the theatre and what hazards to look for in preparation for a performance.

The cost of these workshops ranges. Earlybirds from $150.00 available up until the 27th of December.

These workshops are suitable for people 16 years and older and are perfect for people who are interested in the performing arts and technology pathways.

Graduates of Toi Whakaari and our Senior Teaching Staff will be delivering these workshops which also gives you a taste of the tertiary experience here on Campus. What an added bonus!
